Hello friends!
Thank you for registering for the 9th Copa Comunidad, taking place in only FOUR DAYS in Los Angeles. [Cue cheers of jubilation.]
This email is to let you know that the full schedule of events is now available here:
Everything including directions, what to bring for each event, and menus will be found on this page. Tweaks and updates are bound to be made in the next few days; this will be noted at the top of the page.
If you indicated in your registration that you require housing or transportation in LA during Copa, you likely received an email this past weekend from one of our housing coordinators, Monika Shankar or Mike Wang, providing you with additional information. Please get in touch with them if you have questions about housing or transportation in LA. (Bay Area folks should contact Abner or Victor with questions about the long drive south.)
We’ve also added a list of what to bring:
There are a few items we’d like to highlight: To minimize our waste and lower our impact on the environment, we encourage you to bring a reusable plate, cup, and utensil for meals (if it’s easy to travel with). Also, we have a dope group project we’re going to make available for the weekend — a timeline of sorts of our Left Wing groups — and encourage you to bring photocopies of Left Wing mementos and memorabilia (flyers, manifestoes, etc.) if you’ve got them.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR L.A. FUTBOLISTAS: To help ease up on the labor put out by the FOODbolistas (our food crew), the Welcome Dinner on Friday 5/22 includes a potluck. We ask that you please bring a salad, fruit, or dessert to share!
And finally, if you have not yet paid your registration fee, please do so ASAP. We expect the overall cost of Copa to come in around $3000 (not including T-shirts), and we’re about two-thirds of the way there. As with past Copas, we just want to recoup our costs, so every little bit counts. The fee is $40–$60 on a sliding scale. Please pay as you are able!
We also can confirm that T-shirts are $15 each. A mock-up of the shirt is included below. Several of you have paid your reg fee but may have been waiting to pay for a shirt — now is a good time to send in that extra cash. At the moment, we are woefully underpaid for T-shirts. We will also accept payment in person at Copa (let us know ahead of time, if you can). If you have ordered a shirt, payment is not optional; you will be expected to pay for your shirt in order to get one.
Pay via PayPal as “Friends or Family” to copacomunidadLA@gmail.com (if from bank account, no fees!).
On behalf of your Copa Comunidad LA planning committee, I send you hugs and 1-2-3 LOVE — we CANNOT WAIT to see you this weekend!
Andrea
