“If we want to change the world, we have to change the way we play.”
The Futbolistas are a group of Los Angeles–area activists and organizers who kick the ball around every Sunday. We welcome and encourage the participation of people of color, women-identified, gender-non-conforming, and LGBTQ folks, with skill levels ranging from “never touched the ball” to “almost picked up by scouts.” We’re all about camaraderie, team play, positive sportsmanship, and helping one another improve our game. It’s an alternate social reality that hopefully we can transfer into our everyday world — and the score is always 2–2!
